Passion Fruit Jalapeno Margarita
Have you ever tried taking a passion fruit right off the tree and taking a bite? I wouldn’t recommend it unless you like emergency visits to the dentist. I guess if you have a crush on your dentist, and just want to get his/her attention this could be a technique worth trying. But you’re probably better off just not brushing your teeth very often, so when you go in for a cleaning it takes forever. It’ll be painful and bloody, but at least you’ll be in there for a while. Of course if you only get the hygienist then you just wasted months of bad breath, pain, and blood for nothing. You know what? Just make them this margarita and you’ll get free dental work for a year.

What you’ll need -
• 4 Ounces of passion fruit juice. 5 or 6 passion fruits should be plenty but you’ll want more after drinking this.
• 2 Ounces of lime juice. 2-4 limes. Don’t use the bottled stuff unless you’re allergic to good flavor.
• 4 Ounces tequila. I prefer silver (blanco) tequila. If you’re on a low budget use the Kirkland brand from Costco if you have a membership. Avoid the junky cheap stuff at Vons if possible. Comment below or hit me up for some good affordable tequila recommendations.
• 2 Ounces orange liquor. Use Cointreau or Grand Marnier. Don’t use triple sec unless you’re poor. Patron makes an orange liquor that’s more affordable and not garbage like triple sec.
• 2 Ounces of simple syrup. You can make it at home in 5 minutes. Just take equal parts sugar and water and heat it on the stove until the sugar dissolves. Make a bunch and save it in the fridge.
• 1 red or green Jalapeno - sliced
This will be enough to make the margarita, and give yourself a nice refill. You’ll want it.
Let’s start with the passion fruit. They’re not easy to work with, but there’s a trick that makes them easy to deal with for margaritas.
Start by cutting the passion fruits in half. Then use a spoon and scoop out the insides.
Add the insides of the passion fruit to the blender. Then add some water. Just enough to allow the goopy insides to liquefy when you blend. 2 parts fruit, 1 part water or so. Adjust if needed. Always start with less water and add when needed. Next blend, softly. Just pulse it. You don’t want to blend the seeds. You just want to blend the fruit and water together and leave the seeds intact. So just pulse carefully until that’s done. It’s a trick I learned from my friend AJ, a wizard with all things passion fruit. The seeds are edible, but it’s better without them.
Now strain out the seeds.
Once you’ve strained out the seeds you can make the margarita. Pour all of the ingredients (except the jalapenos) into your cocktail shaker, because you do have one. right? Add ice, shake, pour over ice into your favorite margarita glass. I like to add some slices of jalapeno last. 5 or 6 small slices. Mix them into the glass a little bit. I like it with just a small kiss of jalapeno. If you love spicy drinks and want more heat, add a few slices to the shaker as well.
What should you pair this margarita with? I suggest pairing it with your mouth, over and over again.
